Be Forward Wanderers head coach Bob Mpinganjira said he was relieved on Saturday when the Nomads chalked their first TNM Super League victory this season after three successive draws.

The Lali Lubani Road outfit beat Kasungu-based TN Stars 3-0 at Kasungu Stadium to take their tally to six points from four matches.

The victory saw them move seven places up the ladder from 13th to sixth.

Said Mpinganjira: “Having dropped six points in the three drawn matches, this was a must-win game, otherwise we would have been in very tight situation.

“I also believe that we could have done better had it not been for the heavy downpour which affected our style of play.

“Nevertheless, we are satisfied to return to our base with four points.”

Kick-off was delayed by over an hour due to heavy rains and while both teams expressed concern with the wet conditions of the pitch, which looked like a swamp, Super League of Malawi insisted that the match should still be played.

And after shrugging off some early lethargy, Wanderers took the lead through their new-signing defender Yunus Shariff before their talisman Vincent Nyangulu doubled the lead moments later.

Nyangulu went on to claim a brace to put the Nomads on a margin of safety.

Following the loss, TN have dropped to seventh. They have six points from five matches.

At Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, Bangwe Township-based Ntopwa FC’s remarkable run continued when they thumped Chitipa United 5-2.

The hero of the afternoon for Amagheto Kids was Potipher Likoswe who claimed a hat-trick, the other two goals came from Kondwani Saizi and Hendrix Misinde while Khumbo Ng’ambi and Alex Benson were on target for the visitors.

Ntopwa have moved two placed up with nine points from four matches. They trail leaders Red Lions by two points, but Ntopwa have a game in hand.

Chitipa coach Alex Ngwira was given the marching orders, leaving team doctor Sylvester Mkandawire to take charge.

In a post-match interview, Mkandawire accused the referee of favouring the host side, arguing that the red card shown to their coach was unnecessary.

Ntopwa owner Isaac ‘Jomo’ Osman applauded his charges for playing according to game-plan.

Chitipa anchor the 16-team league with a point from four matches.

In another match, Blue Eagles were held to a three-all draw by Karonga United at Nankhaka in Lilongwe.
