Be Forward Wanderers executive committee has endorsed the club’s main supporters committee’s decision to suspend their chairperson Yamikani Kaliyapa.
The committee suspended their boss on allegations that he misappropriated funds belonging to the committee.
Wanderers general secretary Mike Butao yesterday said the supporters committee has full mandate to suspend anyone in their committee, including their chairperson.
“It has happened before several times. We are indeed in receipt of the suspension letter and we, as an executive, respect and endorse the supporters’ decision,” said Butao.
Kaliyapa could not be reached for comment yesterday, but he laughed off the suspension, saying only the executive committee has the powers to suspend him.
“I have received the letter, it’s rubbish. They have no such powers to fire or suspend me. It is only the executive committee which has such powers,” he said.
He also dismissed the accusations levelled against him, saying they were just meant to tarnish his leadership.
Kaliayapa said: “These are just cooked-up stories, I know nothing about it. Mind you, it was a majority of supporters who elected me to this position not just the 12 supporters committee who signed the letter.” n
