A crisis meeting that was called by Mighty Wanderers FC executive committee on Wednesday evening rejected players’ demand to fire the club’s general secretary David Kanyenda who doubles as technical sub-committee head.

The Nomads executive also turned down calls from a section of the team’s technical sub-committee and supporters to dismiss the Stuart Mbolembole-led coaching panel.

Instead, the meeting, which lasted until midnight established that all the stakeholders—the executive committee, technical panel, players and supporters—are to blame for the club’s scary downward plunge which has seen the Nomads failing to register a win in seven  games.

Reports also indicate that a fallout between chairperson George Chamangwana and Kanyenda has split the Nomads camp, thereby worsening the situation.

Chamangwana yesterday said it was agreed that the coaching panel and Kanyenda will stay put for now.

“All of us need to accept that in one way or the other, we are failing in our duties. It was also established that we were indeed not pulling in the same direction,” said Chamangwana.

He, however, claimed that the meeting helped to identify problems and put in place mechanisms to address them.

“I am not comfortable to go into details pertaining to the meeting, suffice to say we have come up with resolutions,” said Chamangwana.

Asked to comment on reports of a rift between him and Kanyenda, Chamangwana said: “All that is speculation, but I can confirm that there is a group of supporters that is working underground to create such rift.”

On his part, Kanyenda who attended the meeting, said he will not bow down to players’ demand to step down.

“I am not worried. I am calm. There is politics at any level. Some people use players to advance their interests and goals. It is the work of some people who do not wish me well,” he said, adding that he does not believe that there is a problem between him and the players or the coaching panel.

“As a matter of principle,  I do not want to create an impression that I am against the players,” he said.
