Be Forward Wanderers yesterday swallowed their pride and congratulated their age-old rivals Nyasa Big Bullets for winning the Presidential Cup.

The People’s Team saw off Moyale Barracks’ spirited challenge to win through a penalty shoot-out, to join the Nomads as the only two sides to have won the competition twice.

Wanderers general secretary Mike Butao and team manager Stevie Madeira took turns to salute their rivals.

“Congratulations to Bullets for winning the cup. To get an equaliser in the 93rd minute and eventually win the cup, showed amazing spirit.

“That never-die spirit is something every sportsman should applaud and emulate,” he said.

On his part, Madeira said: “Congratulations to the entire ‘red army’ family and Bullets team for winning this one, they demonstrated true fighting spirit from the first whistle right up to the end.”

Nyasa Manufacturing Company (NMC), Bullets’ sponsors, also hailed the People’s Team.

Said the company’s managing director Dimitri Kalaitzis: “We are very happy for the team, the victory was well deserved and they played well throughout the tournament.

“We believe that’s just the beginning of many good things to come.”
