Nomads have failed to sign Kumwenda—Eagles

Blue Eagles FC have said their midfielder Vitumbiko Kumwenda will stay put at the club because Be Forward Wanderers have failed to sign the player.

However, the Nomads yesterday contradicted the Malawi Police Service side, accusing it of twisting facts to suit their interests.

In a statement issued yesterday signed by chairperson Alexander Ngwala, Eagles state that initially they offered the player to Wanderers at K8 million, but the Nomads made a K2 million counter offer.

“We then came down to K3.5 million, but Wanderers said they were ready to pay K3 million which Blue Eagles turned down

“The current status is that Wanderers made their official position to the effect that they will not proceed with the transaction and that they have failed to get the player,” reads part of the statement.

It further states that for now, Kumwenda remains a Blue Eagles player.

“Official communication will be made transparently if anything comes to light.”

However, Wanderers general secretary Victor Maunde yesterday said they were disappointed with how Eagles handled the issue.

He said: “We have a lot of respect for Eagles, in particular their chairperson [Ngwala], but the way they have handled the issue is, to say the least, unfair to us.

“At no time did we say we had failed to buy the player. Our position is that the negotiations are on-going and it was unfortunate for them to issue such a statement before we concluded the talks.”

The player himself yesterday said his heart is at Wanderers.

“I am just keeping my fingers crossed that the deal should materialise,” he said.
