Nomads players snub supporters

Mighty Be Forward Wanderers players on Saturday snubbed their supporters’ call for their traditional ‘bekeshu’ dance after beating Red Lions 1-0 in Standard Bank Knockout Cup quarter-final match at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The players’ reaction was a direct response to the supporters outburst last week when they forced the players to walk to their club house after a second consecutive TNM Super League loss.Wanderers

The Nomads supporters, who were at their usual southern stands, were eagerly waiting for the players to come to them and celebrate with them by performing their traditional ‘bekeshu’ jig.

But striker Luka Milanzi, who scored the lone goal of the match, told his team mates to ignore the supporters and head to the dressing room.

Siajaamatitukwana last week, tiyeniku dressing room guys, [these are the same people who were insulting us last week, let’s ignore them and go to the dressing rooms],” Milanzi was overheard telling his team-mates.

The supporters were left in the cold at the stands as the players walked off the pitch.

After the game, coach Elia Kananji said he tried to work on the players’ psyche after last week’s experience.

“I told the players to forget about everything that happened and concentrate on the game. I told them that what people were saying was of no importance and that if we play our game and score we would win the game,” Kananji said.

The coach also pleaded with the supporters to be patient with the team.
