Karonga, who were trailing 3-0 in under 10 minutes, became the second flagship league side to be booted out after Mzuzu University (Mzuni).

At Kamuzu Stadium, Jaffalie Chande and substitute Khumbo Ng’ambi scored a brace each for  theNomads while Isaac Kaliati, Peter Wadabwa and Mike Kaziputa had a goal each.

Chande opened the scoreline in the 14th minute before Isaac Kaliati added Nomads’ second goal with a simple tap-in six minutes later.

In the 34th minute, Wadabwa claimed the third when he lurched on a loose ball in the box and hit a powerful shot to the far post, leaving Songani goalkeeper Allan Chinyama rooted to the ground.

Mike Kaziputa, who came in for injured Francis Mlimbika in the sixth minute, added more misery on the Zomba-based side in the 38th when he connected home a wonderful pass from Amos Bello. The first half ended 4-0 in favour of Wanderers.

At half time, Wadabwa was pulled out for Khumbo Ng’ambi while Enerst Tambe replaced Bello. But it took at least 30 minutes for the changes to take effect for Wanderers.

They dominated play and missed a flurry of scoring chances until substitute Khumbo Ng’ambi scored Nomads’ fifth goal in the 75th minute. He scored his second three minutes later.
