Nomads struggle to beat their reserve side

Be Forward Wanderers yesterday struggled to be beat their reserve side 1-0 as they set out on their Carlsberg Cup title defence campaign at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Relief was the prevalent emotion in the senior Nomads’ camp after the final whistle after qualifying for the round of 16 in which they will face Kamuzu Barracks.

A 54th minute goal by Peter Wadabwa sealed Wanderers’ senior side’s victory with a spectacular flying header that left Reserves’ goalkeeper Effort Mahara rooted to the ground.

“The reserve side gave us quite a tough time. Nevertheless, what is important to us is that we are progressing to the next round,” said a visibly relieved Wanderers coach Eddingtone Ng’onamo in a post-match interview.

On his part, the Nomads’ reserve side coach Albert ‘Kika’ Mpinganjira, himself a former Wanderers talisman, said: “We gave out our best, but it is just unfortunate that we have lost against our seniors. I salute my players for putting up a gallant fight.”
