Nomads thrash Wizards

Be Forward Wanderers yesterday turned on a vintage display to beat Wizards FC 4-0 in a TNM Super League contest at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

It was one of the best performances by the Nomads this season which saw them jump two places up to seventh in the 16-team league.nomads

They now have 20 points from 11 game and this was their fourth successive league victory.

Midfield workhorse Rafiq Namwela drew first blood barely 35 seconds into the match, even before the fans had the feel of the action.

It was probably the fastest goal of the season so far.

And then four minutes into the second half, Jaffalie Chande, who had just been thrown in as a substitute, scored the second goal when he calmly fired the ball home from Isaac ‘Tcheya’ Kaliati’s curling cross.

Nine minutes later, left back Francis Mlimbika scored a spectacular goal from almost 40 metres out on the left flank which caught an ill-positioned Wizards’ goaltender Wanipa Gondwe off guard.

Pater Wadabwa then closed the score sheet from a penalty, awarded after Kaliati was fouled in the box.

“We are happy with the win, it shows the team is now stable. We will keep on working hard so that we get back into contention for the title,” said Wanderers coach Eddingtone Ng’onamo.

His Wizards counterpart McDonald Yobe described it as their worst performance so far this season.

At Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa, Mafco moved to second position after beating Blue Eagles 2-1.

Mafco, who have played 13 games, are tied on now have 25 points with Eagles, who have a game in hand.

Silver Strikers, who pipped Dwangwa United 1-0 at the same venue on Saturday, lead the table with 26 points from 12 matches.

The league’s leading scorer Richard Mbulu put Mafco ahead in the 45th minute to take his tally to nine goals before Gilbert Chirwa levelled the scores in the second half.

Then at the dot of full time, Zasher M’nong’oneza grabbed the winner for the soldiers.
