The Nomads, who are the only team to have won the tournament twice, said they will formally register their concern with the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and seek a fresh draw.

“We are not afraid of Blantyre United, but we are surprised that the draw did not seed Super League teams,” said the club’s general secretary David Kanyenda.

“We expected Super League sides to avoid each other at this stage because the tournament will lose some appeal,” he said.

Kanyenda also claimed that FAM did not consult stakeholders on the format.

FAM competitions officer Gomezgani Zakazaka said they were yet to get Nomads’ official complaint.

On his part, Blantyre United technical director Lawson Nakoma said they did not have problems playing Wanderers.

“We are ready to face any team regardless of their status since this is supposed to be a national competition.

“Even if we had been paired against a small team, we would not have been guaranteed of a win,” he said.
