Bonex Pool Club last week defeated Wanapato from Masasa in Mzuzu during the launch of the Northern Region Pool League (NRPL).
Bonex beat the Masasa team 7-5 at Waonawala Bar in Zolozolo.
Ten teams have so far registered for the tournament.
Bonex captain Elia Mhango said said he was delighted with the win.

“I am happy for registering a win during this launch, I thank my fellow players for playing as advised,” said Mhango.
Parish Luwinga is defending the championship.
Speaking during the event NRPL chairperson Mathews Munthali urged participating teams to work hard so that they do better this year.
Munthali said there is a need for the championship to rotate from one team to another.
“This is a right time for teams to prepare well; it does not sound well to see only one team earning the championship. There is a need for the championship title to change from one team to another,” said Munthali.
