North Women FAM Cup district winners yet to be rewarded

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is yet to pay Northern Region district winners of FAM Women’s Cup, which started on September 13.

Some Northern Region districts winners gathered at the Rosedale Court at the week end for prize presentation ceremony, only to be told later that the prizes were not there.

Information sourced from National Women Football Committee (NWFC) indicate that district winners were supposed to receive their prizes on October 18, before moving to regional qualifiers.

NWFC chairperson Severia Chalira said on Monday that they are in an awkward position as pressure is mounting on them from the teams seeking explanation on what has happened to their prizes.

“Of course, the pressure is there from the general public, but as a committee we still have to wait. The situation is not good as we will also delay regional play-offs,” said Chalira.

FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda said his association is aware of issue and they will sort out the problem soon, but he was non-committal on the exact time the prizes would be given.

“We will discuss the way forward with NWFC, but we cannot tell you specifically when we will pay out the prizes. In any case, I feel that is an internal issue, not to be discussed in the media,” he said.
