NPL columnist Mchenga dies

The Reverend Steinsford Mchenga, who was writing the Spiritual Reflections column in Nation on Sunday, died on Monday at Mtengo Umodzi Private Hospital in Blantyre.

Confirming the death, deputy general secretary of the CCAP Blantyre Synod, the Reverend Moyenda Kanjerwa said Mchenga had been suffering from diabetes.

Born in 1952, Mchenga hailed from Chaputula Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Mlumbe in Zomba.

He held various positions within the synod and, until his death, he was heading the literature department.

Said Kanjerwa: “Rev Mchenga was ordained church minister of the CCAP Blantyre Synod in 1983. His body was taken to Saint Michael and All Angels for a farewell service.

“His body will be laid to rest at his home village in Zomba. He once served as moderator of the synod, youth director, among other positions.”

Mchenga’s last entry for his column published on Sunday November 23 was ‘Seeking the new born King’.
