The chief made the pledge during a meeting organised by Nsanje district commissioner (DC) Michael Chimbalanga on Thursday to identify lasting solutions to floods which have been hitting the district in recent years.

T/A Ndamela said he pledged the piece of land to T/A Nyachikadza because people in the area have always expressed interest to relocate to safer places.

“You are my brother. Therefore, I will help you so that your subjects can resettle and be away from floods,” he said.

In his remarks, T/A Mbenje suggested the need for the two chiefs and the district council to sign a memorandum of understanding on the issue.

He asked the DC to set another day when all stakeholders, including traditional leaders, would finalise the issue.

“T/A Ndamela has shown a good gesture. But we need to have another platform so that we can discuss the issue at length. It is not as simple as it appears,” said Mbenje.

Chimbalanga commended Ndamela for the pledge and promised to meet chiefs to address relocation issues.
