Nsanje DC cautions CSOs

Nsanje district commissioner Harry Phiri has cautioned civil society organisations (CSOs)operating in the district to submit financial reports to his office or face deregistration.

Phiri issued the warning when he addressed CSO members in the district.

“The [laws] mandate you to provide financial reports to the council and any organisation failing to adhere to this risks being deregistered.

“Even the communities you are serving need to know how much you get from the donors and how you have managed the resources. Donor money is public money, hence the need to inform the people how the resources have been utilized,” he advised.

The DC further urged the CSOs to involve government structures in all project stages including project design, proposal, implementation and evaluation to ensure smooth take over upon project phase out.

“We have been finding problems as government to sustain some projects because we were not involved from the onset.

“We have also observed that there is duplication of initiatives in most of the areas which is resulting in some communities not benefiting. This is happening due to lack of coordination on the part of,” said Phiri.
