Nsanje District Executive Committee (DEC) says it is pleased with the progress being made by Foundation for Civic Education and Social Empowerment (Focese) project called Youth for Inclusion, Participation and Empowerment (Yipe) in local governance structures.

The committee said the project has improved youth participation in different areas of development.

One of the committee members, Felix Kalimame Chisale, said youths in the district have realised that their inclusion and active participation in decision making-processes is crucial in the district’s development.

“We commend Focese for its programmes involving the youth in various areas of development. We want youths in the district to be productive,” he said.

Nsanje Focese youth engagement officer Rodrick Katuka said Nsanje Youth Guidelines, which were developed and adopted by the full council, enhanced youth involvement and participation in almost every developmental activity.

He said the project has trained 240 young men and women in various areas such as village savings and loans, good governance, land policies and human rights.

Katuka said some of the youth are doing vegetable production while others are selling fish, the trades he said have improved the youth’s livelihoods.

The group’s project is funded by DanChurchAid.
