Ntcheu District Hospital has appealed to well-wishers to donate sanitation tools to prevent infectious diseases and improve quality care and management of patients.

Speaking on Friday during a cleaning exercise the hospital organised, Ntcheu district heath officer (DHO) Mike Chisema said besides medication, a good environment contributes hugely to the recovery of patients.

“This exercise happens almost every week, but on a small scale. That is why we decided to have this mass cleaning exercise to reach all corners of the hospital to create a good environment for our patients,” he said.

Chisema also said his office will ensure that other health centres in the district are doing the same.

Stakeholders who took part in the exercise were representatives from Japanese International Cooperation Agency, Germany Agency for International Cooperation and district council officials among others.

In 2016, Ntcheu District Hospital received a medal for improving sanitation and hygiene in health facilities.

According to the DHO, the shield is a backbone of initiatives to move a step higher in terms of hygiene and sanitation.
