Ntchisi crime rate down 4 percent—police
Ntchisi Police Station officer-in-charge Edward Chingaipe says good relationship between community members and the police has helped to reduce crime in the district by four percent from January to June this year.
He said this on Saturday at Ntchisi Community Hall during a station executive committee (SEC) meeting aimed at strengthening partnership and crime prevention among business community and also highlighting how the police have performed during the first half of the year.
Chingaipe, however, said despite the reduction, defilement cases have risen, attributing this to increased unreported cases due to threats made by perpetrators.
He said these threats stop the victims from reporting the incidences to police.
“I would like to urge the community to work with police so that the district can be crime-free and have a conducive business environment,” he said.
Chingaipe advised participants not to take the law into their hands by killing suspects.
“Lynching suspects will not solve any problem. Let us report the suspects to the police,” he said.
SEC chairperson Greshan Stambuli asked the police to tighten security in all crime-prone areas so that the district can be crime-free.
