Farmers in Ntchisi district have adopted new farming technologies which are contributing to household food security.

Njaya, who represented the ministry’s Principal Secretary, said the benefits are visible in the crop situation in most parts of the district.

He urged the farmers to continue interacting and working in teams to achieve maximum productivity.

Kasungu district commissioner James Manyetera said it was encouraging to note the progress in the farming sector.

“Farmers are now taking farming as a business unlike in the past when they were just doing it to have food in their households,” he said.

Kasungu Agricultural Development Division (ADD) programme manager Benard Banda said the field days are meant to give a chance to farmers to learn from one another.

He advised farmers to adopt crop diversification to improve their income as well as achieve food security.

According to Banda, fall armyworms and dry spells have affected the crop situation in Kasungu, Dowa, some parts of Ntchisi and Mchinji, the districts which fall under Kasungu ADD.
