The Ntchisi First Grade Magistrate’s Court last Tuesday sentenced Boston Zilasi (22) to four years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) for burglary.

Ntchisi Police spokesperson Gladson M’bumpha said State prosecutor Austin Daudi told the court that Zilasi broke into the house of Diana Thebulo on the night of July 3 2012 with intent to steal.

“At midnight, Thebulo heard footsteps inside her house. She woke up only to see a person pushing the door of her bedroom,” M’bumpha said.

He said the court heard that when Thebulo lit a torch, he identified the suspect as Zilasi.

In mitigation, the convict told the court that he is the breadwinner in his family.

But magistrate Alex Kantiki said Zilasi deserved a stiff sentence to deter would-be offenders.

Zilasi comes from Kachulu Village, Traditional Authority Kalumo in the district.
