Youths in Ntchisi have taken Nchisi District Council   to task over lack of good playing grounds for sporting activities.

“Ntchisi needs a stadium. We are lacking this facility  to expose our talents and skills in sports. The field that we have is in a very bad state and the council needs to do something,” said Ntchisi Youth Network chairperson  Rodwell Ketala.

He was speaking at Ntchisi Boma on Tuesday during a youth forum.

Ketala said the construction of the stadium would not only help the youth, but also the council as it will generate funds through gate collections.

He said it is high time Ntchisi District Council prioritised issues to do with the youth in their plans and budgets.

“Ntchisi is one of the districts with poor sporting infrastructure and we want our council to start considering our issues in the development plans,” he said.

Ntchisi district commissioner (DC) Malango Bottoman said the stadium was already in the council’s plans.

She said the council was  identifying  funds for the project.

“Construction of stadium is a big project for a council and we need to explore different means of getting enough money for it. Our district development plans have issues of the youth and we address them one after another depending on availability of funds,” she said.

Bottoman assured the youth that the council is looking for donors for the project.

The youth forum was organised by Malawi Human Rights Youth Network with funding from United Nations Development Fund.n
