Nthakomwa, Ng’oma win Vanguard Golfs

Partridge Saycal Nthakomwa beat a field of 52 golfers to be crowned champion of the Vanguard Life Assurance golf tournament hosted by Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC) on Saturday.

Nthakomwa had tied on 37 points with former LGC captain Niel Nyirongo, but prevailed on count back.

Mpatso Chazala was third with 35 points and veteran golfer Justin Mkandawire had the longest drive while Mike Kilner was nearest to the pin.

“It is a great day for me and I will make it a point to win a competition every month [this year]. I enjoyed my golf thoroughly and it was great playing against some of the finest golfers and winning,” said Nthakomwa who started playing golf in 2010.

In the ladies category, it was LGC ladies captain Stella Ng’oma who walked tall on the greens. She beat Elizabeth Trench by amassing 30 points against Trench’s 25.

“The victory means my golf is getting better and I am very happy. I thank my playing partners for the encouragement on the course. I also have to thank Vanguard Life Insurance sponsors for the good golf,” said Ng’oma..

Vanguard Insurance branch manager for Lilongwe, Chimwemwe Singano, thanked the golfers for patronising the event.

‘The purpose was to interact with you customers through the sport you love, and also to update you on our services. We thank you for coming and we hope to be back here next year. We are also grateful to LGC management for the organisation,” said Singano.
