Ntopwa Super Queens had a resounding start to the Fifa/FAM Women Football Cup campaign on Sunday when they thrashed newcomers Jacaranda FC 19-0 at Bangwe Youth Centre in Blantyre.

Their striker Laita Magombo scored 12 of Ntopwa’s goals to make an instant significant step towards winning the Golden Boot Award while Grace Yotamu struck four times. Funny Magombo had a brace before Memory Banda completed the loot with a header.

This was Jacaranda’s second defeat in the preliminary stage of the competition as they suffered a 15-0 defeat by King’s Ladies FC in their first game last week.

However, Ntopwa Queens’ owner Isaac Osman has described their resounding victory as a warning to Blantyre Zero, who they expect to face in the Southern Region finals of the Arthur Peter Mutharika Women Football League soon.

“We are back with a bang after staying for long without playing competitive games. Our triumph over Jacaranda was just a test of our renewed vigour because our main focus is on our meeting with Blantyre Zero in the Mutharika League finals,” said Osman.

In another Blantyre District encounter of the Fifa/FAM Cup, Dreams United beat their rivals Evirom Sisters 2-0 at Chilunga Ground in Ndirande, Blantyre.
