Nyasulu claims Mtawali had issues

Philip Nyasulu has said his removal  as Flames goalkeepers’ trainer was as a result of coach Ernest Mtawali’s hard feelings against him and not inefficiency in his role.

Nyasulu was yesterday reacting to Mtawali’s statement made at Thursday’s press conference at Chiwembe Technical Centre in Blantyre where the Flames mentor stated that Nyasulu’s replacement with Swadick Sanudi followed goalkeeping flaws during the recent 2017 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Swaziland which ended 2-2.

“If I was inefficient, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) could have sacked me along with the previous technical panel and former technical adviser Briton Andy Dell could not have praised me in his report,” he said.

“If the goalkeeper conceded silly goals in Swaziland, then that might have been as a result of not applying the skills I imparted in him. Mtawali seems to have some issues with me. Only God knows the truth about his reasons for firing me.”

In his statement, Mtawali said that his charges ticked throughout the game against Swaziland in terms of ball possession and attacking, but the goalkeeping part let them down.

“We conceded two goals that could have easily been avoided,” Mtawali said.

He also recommended that both Nyasulu and Sanudi should be given a chance for refresher courses.

On this factor, Nyasulu admitted that he requires the course although he has already acquired much knowledge through experience.

Flames are preparing for the 2018 World Cup preliminary qualifier against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam on October 7. The  return leg at Kamuzu Stadium is on October 11. n
