Speaking after donating the flour, Nyika Media Club chairperson Deogratias Mmana said the club donated the food items taking into consideration the food shortage most people are experiencing in the country, including inmates.

In addition, Mmana said Nyika Media Club’s gesture to donate the flour is a way of fulfilling its corporate social responsibility as the club is part of the community.

He also said as media, they support the parole system government is currently reviewing, saying it would decongest the country’s prisons.

Receiving the donation, Mzuzu Prison officer-in-charge Harrings Nyalubwe thanked the club for the donation, saying it will assist them a lot.

He said the funding the prison receives from government is not enough, considering that the prison set-up is difficult to predict, especially the number of inmates the prison may have at a given time.
