Nyika Media Club elects new office bearers

Journalists in the Northern Region under Nyika Media Club on yesterday went to the polls, where they ushered in new office bearers.

Nation Publications Limited (NPL) Mzuzu Bureau Supervisor Joseph Mwale was elected chairperson, after defeating NPL’s Mzimba Correspondent Elton Mhango by 46 to 16 votes.

Tione Luwanga of Rainbow Television was elected deputy chairperson, Pledge Jali of NPL as secretary general and is deputised by Joachim Nthala of the Voice of Livingstonia (VOL), Alex Banda of Zodiak is now the Nyika Media Club projects officer, while MBC’s McDonald Malema is the club’s treasurer general.

Committee members are Dennis Nliwasa of MBC, Francisco Mwanza, of Radio Tigabane as well as George Chitaya of VOL.

In his acceptance speech, Mwale said he would work towards ensuring improved welfare of journalists in the Northern Region, and also creating networks with the corporate world to ensure a win-win situation with the club. Oliver Malibisa, a member from Likoma Community Radio urged the new executive to work towards ensuring the welfare of all journalists, not just those based in Mzuzu.
