He shared the award with fellow striker Kermit Erasmus.

The news was announced last week after SuperSport won the Nedbank Cup following a 2-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns.

Nyondo said he felt honoured to win the award in only his first season in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL).

“I never expected it and I am very excited. It felt good to get such a recognition at a big club like SuperSport which has a number of big-name strikers.

“The award will inspire me to work even harder,” he said.

Nyondo also said he was excited to be part of the Nedbank Cup success.

“The last time I won a cup was in 2008 when we clinched the TNM Super League championship with Silver Strikers. In fact my last knockout cup victory was the Standard Bank also with Silver in 2007. So, it felt really good to be on the winners podium once more,” he said.

Nyondo scored seven league goals. Six of them came in the first round last year.

In the second round he struggled for game time and only managed one goal. He finished seventh on the league’s top goal scorers chart—13 goals behind eventual winner Siyabonga Nomvete.
