National Salvation Front (Nasaf) president James Nyondo has died. Nyondo, 47, died Friday night at Steve Biko Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Nyondo led Nasaf in the 2014 tripartite elections. Nasaf’s secretary general Lester Chikoya confirmed Nyondo’s death in an interview, explaining that Nyondo died after a short battle with lung cancer. He added that arrangements are being made by the party and family to repatriate his body to Malawi.
Chikoya mourned: “We have lost our president. This is a big loss, not only to our party, but to the nation. He was a brilliant politician and a leader with a vision to change the lives of Malawians if he was given that chance.”
Chikoya said Nyondo who is survived by a wife and three children, was a serious family man.
Chikoya said the party will update Malawians on funeral arrangements.
