Nyondo trashes JB’s government
President of the National Salvation Front (Nasaf) James Nyondo has questioned the country’s political leadership at all levels, likening it to an airplane flying with limited attention from the pilot.
In a media statement released on Thursday, Nyondo accused President Joyce Banda’s government of lacking a vision to deal with the worsening economic conditions and escalating unemployment, especially among the youths.
“The mudslinging going on among the political leaders, the constant change of sitting plan in the National Assembly [and] the endless public meetings for small food distribution reveal a government that is running on autopilot,†he said.
While PP brushed off Nyondo as a political nonentity, he said the events mirror the “institutionalisation of mediocrity at both party and government level by the ruling parties of the day†—something noted at a recent Public Affairs Committee (PAC) conference in Blantyre.
“Malawi’s image is being tarnished because of lack of integrity of our leaders. Today, the sky is blue, tomorrow it is red. The colour of the sky is dependent upon who gives me the most money, perks, positions. None of the so-called major political parties have done Malawi any good. Malawi is regressively getting poorer,†he said.
Political scientist Dr Blessings Chinsinga agreed with Nyondo, noting that the country is still facing the “same old problems†and going through a state of flux due to lack of strategic leadership.
“Looking around, you will discover that our problems are not new. To some extent, Nyondo’s observations vindicate what I said at the recent PAC meeting that the country lacks transformational leadership. We need leaders who think out of the box, not business as usual,†said Chinsinga.
