OG Issa second-round kicks off

Part of the action in OG Issa Netball League first round

The second-round of the OG Issa Southern Region Netball League (SRNL) takes place this weekend in Zomba, Blantyre and Mulanje with 12 matches on the menu.

SRNL general secretary Annie Hanjahanja-Billie said yesterday they have deliberately arranged a number of matches on Saturday and Sunday to complete the 2013/2014 league season in good time and pave the way for the new season in three months’ time.

“We are running against time to complete the league season and we have no choice but to have 12 matches in two days,”she said.

MTL Queens will play three games at the Airwing Netball Court in Zomba on Saturday. They face Triggers Sisters at 11am, Prison Sisters at 1.30pm and the hosts Airwing Sisters at 3pm.

On the same day, defending champions Diamonds play against Chilomoni Sisters at 10.30am then Young Girls at 1.30pm at the Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) where leaders Complex Tigresses meet Gerald Tasaukadala Sisters at noon.

The match between Shizaella Sisters and Aquaid Sisters will be the last encounter at the BYC on Saturday.

In Mulanje, Chitakale Sisters will be at home against Woget Stars at 2pm.

On Sunday, the BYC will be the only venue for the encounters.

Gerald Tasaukadala Sisters face Triggers at 10am, Tigresses take on Shizaella at noon and Young Girls play against Chilomoni Sisters at 1.30pm. Tigresses will wrap up the show with an encounter against Woget Stars.

Tigresses completed the first-round two weeks ago and top the 13-team log table with 36 points while Diamonds are second with 33 points.

MTL Queens and Wogets Stars finished the round on 30 points and 27 points respectively.
