OG Plastic Industries Limited has co-sponsored the coverage of the final stages of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with Nation Publications Limited (NPL).

NPL senior news analyst Garry Chirwa will cover the final stages of the event.

OG Plastic administration manager Muhammad Jabran Shah said they decided to co-sponsor coverage of the event from the semi-final stages to keep soccer-loving Malawians abreast of what is happening on the ground.

“While the Flames did not qualify, still the tournament has attracted a lot of interest and excitement from soccer loving Malawians and we thought it wise to co-sponsor coverage of the event through NPL,” said Shah.

He also said OG Plastics has always been associated with sports by, among other things, sponsoring cricket and netball.

“It is part of our social responsibility and we are hopeful that through Garry [Chirwa] who is an experienced sports journalist, Malawians will follow the events as they unfold, especially in the closing stages of the competition,” he said.

Chirwa will cover the final stages of the competition courtesy of Standard Bank having been named the best print journalist in the coverage of the Standard Bank Knockout Trophy. State broadcaster MBC’s Peter Fote came out tops in the electronic category and he, too, covered part of the showpiece.

NPL sports editor Michael Mmeya expressed gratitude to both OG Plastic Industries and Standard Bank for their gesture.

“It is good that corporate citizens are working together in ensuring that Malawians get the best from sports events happening outside the country,” said Mmeya.
