MP hands over two ambulances to constituents

Chikhwawa Mkombezi Member of Parliament (MP) Sidik Mia on Sunday handed over two ambulances worth K10 million (about $40 000) to his constituency.

Mia, who is also Minister of Transport and Public Infrastructure, said in an interview after handing over the ambulances that he made the donation to help President Joyce Banda in efforts to reduce maternal deaths in the country.

He said before he bought the first two sets of ambulances four years ago, which he decided to replace on Sunday, women in his constituency were giving birth on their way to hospital. Traditional Authority Ngabu appealed to the hospital personnel to use the ambulances for their intended purpose to save lives.
