One dies in road accident

One person police identified as Smartwell Nzeru, 28, died in Ntchisi at the weekend after he fell into the road and was run over by a moving truck. Ntchisi Police spokesperson Gladson M’bumpha said the vehicle registration SA7530/SA6221 was coming from the direction of Mponela heading to Ntchisi along the Ntchisi/Mponela Road and upon arrival at Ntchisi Boma near PTC shop, the truck driver passed a cyclist who was heading the same direction.

“Suddenly, the cyclist who carried a basket of tomatoes fell in the road and was run over by a moving truck, Nzeru died on the spot due to fractures on the chin and right ribs,” said M’bumpha. —Mana
