One drowns at Lake of Stars

The Lake of Stars (LOS) music festival happening in Mangochi opened on a dour note after 21-year-old Zomba resident Ufulu Kanyongolo drowned yesterday morning.
A joint press statement released by Sunbird Tourism Limited and LOS  said Kanyongolo was found unconscious in the swimming pool at Nkopola Lodge at 5 am on Saturday.

 
“He received medical attention from the on-site team followed by the Mangochi District Health Officer (DHO). He was pronounced dead at the scene and has been transferred to Mangochi District Hospital,” the statement read.

 
The statement further asked all partners and stakeholders to investigate the incident and provide support to the victim’s family and friends.
Both Lake of Stars and Sunbird Tourism Limited refused to comment further on the issue, stressing it was a police case.
Mangochi Police spokesperson Rodrick Maida said the police are investigating circumstances that led to Kanyongolo’s death.
The LOS festival kicked off on Friday and comes to a close tonight.
