One Goal Queens on Monday denied DD Sunshine maximum points in the last game of the K1 million (about $2 500) Central Region Arthur Mutharika Women Football League.

The Queens came from behind to hold the champions to a one-all draw at Kalambo ground.

DD Sunshine has successfully defended the championship title after they finished the league at top with 37 points. They have won 12 games, drawn one and lost one.

One Goal Queens have finished as runners-up on 35 points with a record of 11 wins, two draws and a single loss.

DD Sunshine took the lead through Eliza Mwale who scored from a free kick at the edge of the 18-yard box.

The lead was short-lived as One Goal Queens equalised 10 minutes later through Omega Kapulukira.

The goal originated from a counter-attack move that involved Glady Malaisha and Kapulukira following a poor corner kick by Cathy Baison

Queens coach Yasin Zidana said the result was not a true reflection of the game, saying they were the better team of the day.

“We dominated the game and we could have won the game, only that we were wasteful in front of goal,” said Zidana.
