Police have arrested one more suspect in the murder case of a Blantyre-based Portuguese businessperson Serafim Fernando da Silva.

The suspect was arrested last Friday after a vehicle they had been using to terrorise Blantyre got involved in an accident at M’bwelera Township in the city.

policeBlantyre Police spokesperson Elizabeth Divala identified the man as Simeon Thom Salimu Milanzi, 36, from Gonda Village, Chief Ngabu in Chikhwawa.

During the incident, Milanzi was in the company of two accomplices.

“He was captured by community members and when our officers rushed there, they recognised the man as a notorious criminal who had been to prison before on charges of car hijacking,” explained Divala, adding that Milanzi’s accomplices managed to escape.

She said the Toyota Corolla vehicle belonged to TNM and was stolen at gun point in New Naperi, Blantyre on May 27 2014.

During the robbery, the vehicle was being driven by a 36-year-old Romanian national Adrian Cazan from whom they also stole K600 000 (US$1 459.9) cash.

“TNM have confirmed that the vehicle belongs to them. And according to our investigations, these robbers were repainting the vehicle every time they conducted their mission,” said Divala.

She said the late Silva’s wife and son who were present when he was shot and TNM’s Cazan had both recognised the suspect.
