Afro-pop gospel singer Onesimus is the brand ambassador for hospitality service provider Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre.

The artist, who is based in South Africa, was formally unveiled at the hotel to mark the start of his new role on Friday evening. At the event, he was accompanied by his local manager Entertainers Promotions chief executive officer Tonderai Banda.

Amaryllis Hotel sales and marketing manager Khaira Surtee said the move to appoint Onesimus as their brand ambassador seeks to reaffirm the hotel as a Malawian establishment whose services are meant for Malawians.

She said: “We know his profile, reach and popularity. He is one of the most exciting talents that Malawi has at the moment. We want to use him to bring Malawians towards our brand. We look forward to the exciting months ahead.”

The artist has been signed for an initial one year contract subject to renewal.

However, the financial implications of the deal were not revealed.

Surtee said his presence will be crucial in their drive to help boost tourism in Malawi.

On his part, Onesimus said his appointment as brand ambassador for the hotel is not just about him or Amaryllis Hotel, but an overall understanding of what needs to be achieved in that area as Malawians.

He said: “I am a Malawian and I fully appreciate that a Malawian brand has recognised our art and has allowed me to be part of their goal in promoting the tourism side of their business. It is really a huge honour for me.”

Through his manager, the artist is expected to undertake a number of media tours and show appearances during his stay in the country.

Last week the artist also announced his scheduled comeback show which is slated for September 25 at Lilongwe Golf Club.
