Zambian artists, Orga Kent and Orga Rex of Organised Family, and Malawi’s Skeffa Chimoto missed Lucius Banda’s Time launch in Mzuzu during the weekend despite assurance of their availability.

According to Banda, the duo opted to perform in South Africa where they had also been booked for a performance.

“These guys [Organised Family] have disappointed us. We agreed everything and what happens, they are in South Africa. But we were lucky to get hold of B1,” said Banda.

Banda also denied using them for publicity, saying “we would not have printed all those expensive banners had it been that they didn’t confirm to perform [here].”

Also conspicuously missing was Skeffa Chimoto who was reported to be performing at President Joyce Banda’s rally at Masintha ground in Lilongwe on Sunday.

Organised Family also missed last week’s shows’ in Blantyre and Lilongwe which were organised by Mibawa Band. No explanation was given for their unavailability.

Orga Family is famous for songs such as Koka kola, Minga Munsomba, Botolo Top, Hungry Lion, Facebook and Njota (popularly known as Potato Salad).

Despite their unavailability, the patrons at Boma Park on Sunday found solace in another Zambian artist B1 (real name Blues Simbwalanga) who mesmerised fans with Masingle Ladies, Ndekha, Chipuwa, Sikiliti (secret) Kubedi, Munikhululukireko, Make Junior and Chikondi Nibabili.

But it was Sikiliti Kubedi which caught the hearts of many as most of them could be heard singing along in excitement.

Also in performance was Sam Simakweli who dished out songs from his new album Chibale, and renditions of Busy Signal. Dan Lu raised the tempo of the show with his Nsanje, Shupi, Mphete, Part of Life, Allergicand Uhule ndi Mtima and So What?

Wendy Harawa came on stage at 4.23pm, and her dancing antics were the centre of attention.

The defining moment came when Lucius came on stage at 5.45pm to mark the launch of Time. He drove fans down the memory lane with hits from his early albums up to his new 17th album.

In an interview, he dubbed the tour in the North as a success and thanked his fans for supporting him through huge turnouts.
