Organisers’ row foils Emmanuella’s show

Typical of a Nigerian movie which features some fraudulent characters, the organisers of the World Comedy Day celebration have deceived each other and cancelled the show.

The show was planned to be headlined by Nigeria’s up and coming comedian Emmanuella of the Mark Angelo Comedy. The two shows were scheduled for June 30 at Comesa Hall and Bingu International Convention Centre (Bicc) in Lilongwe on July 1, the  World Comedy Day.

But news coming in from the two companies Primic Inc (Malawi) and Sisqo Productions (South Africa), which is owned by musician Dan Lu’s manager Sisqo Christopher Nwaogwugwu, is not pleasing at all.

“We regret to announce that the World Comedy Day Laughters Events are cancelled due to contract irregularities. This Sisqo guy cannot be trusted. He was insisting that we pay him the Emmanuella’s team’s money but we refused opting for direct payment to the visiting artists,” said Primic Inc directior Prince Chokhoto.

The organisers released a video clip by Emmanuella and Mark Angelo about their Malawian visit. But Chokhoto argued that Sisqo gave them a Mark Angel Comedy contract with bogus phone numbers.

“Sisqo was refusing to give us genuine contacts of the Nigerian artists. So, we thought of cancelling the events because we were failing to get hold of the Emmanuella’s team for payments,” he said.

Asked on the way forward, Chokotho said they will refund the money to people who bought advance tickets. They were also dealing with the Nigerian High Commission in Lilongwe to get hold of Mark Angel Comedy crew to ensure a clean deal. n
