South Africa’s top DJ/Musician, Oscar Mdlongwa, popularly known by his artist name Oskido, has expressed interest to work with Malawian artists.

This news comes after the multi-award winning artist performed in the country at Waka Waka Hotel in Lilongwe on Sunday.

His agent, DJ Flava, a Malawian based in South Africa, confirmed the development in an interview with The Nation on Monday, “Oskido is looking for talent in Malawi.”

During his performance on Sunday, Oskido opened a door for Malawian artists as he called on stage Lilongwe-based up-and-coming singer and TV personality, Lilia, who performed the DJ’s remix of Beyonce’s new song Drunk In Love.

“She [Lilia] happened to perform during the show and he was impressed with her vocals. She has already done some voices which have been sent to South Africa to see if Oskido can come up with something.

“This is the testing phase to see how to work with all Malawian artists who want to collaborate with South African artists,” said Flava, adding, “We are already in talks with other artists, but right now we can’t mention names, but I’m optimistic things will happen.”

Speaking in a separate interview from Lilongwe, Lilia described her two minutes stage experience with Oskido “unforgettable”.

“He called to the crowd where I was standing and enjoying his performance. My friends told me to go, but I was hesitant and nervous and they had to push me to the stage not knowing it was an open door for me,” said Lilia.

The singer, who is under Bensam Entertainment management, explained: “After I finished I left the stage, didn’t realize Oskido had liked my singing. He had DJ Flava calling me to record something. Two minutes performance changed things.

“I am looking forward to working with him, it’s progress. It will not only put me out there, it will give Bensam Entertainment a boost that it has produced a good artist, something Malawi needs.”

Oskido, originally from Zimbabwe, is a producer, DJ, songwriter and artist who has worked with not only South African but Africa’s cream such as Mafikizolo, Uhuru, Professor, DJ Zinhle, Hugh Masekela, Davido, Iyanya and Heavy K, just to mention a few.
