After a lengthy break, seasoned tactician Yasin Osman has expressed his desire to bounce back into football by joining the bandwagon of those vying for the vacant post of FAM technical director’s (TD) position.

Osman, who basks in the glory of being one of the most experienced coaches and highly trained coaches’ instructor on the domestic scene, made his position in an interview with the Weekend Nation in Blantyre on Thursday.

His decision came in the wake of FAM’s announcement this week that the process of recruiting the next TD, is at an advanced stage.

Apart from Osman, those that have so far publicly expressed interest to vie for the position are Prince Mkandawire and Eddington Ng’onamo, who held the post before Jack Chamangwana.

“It is true, I am interested in vying for the TD job because I am the longest serving coach and one of the most highly qualified trainers in the country and I feel it is high time I ploughed back what I have learnt in over 30 years of my experience as both coach and coaches instructor,” said Osman.

For one to be a TD, Fifa requires that he or she must have an instructor’s licence which Osman has.

Osman said apart from setting up developmental structures for youth football, should he be picked, he will thrive to develop a wide base of coaches by conducting coaching clinics nationwide.

The seasoned tactician also said should he succeed in his quest to become the next TD, he will concentrate on developing women’s football structures as well as the levels of refereeing.

“FAM’s targets are that no coach should be allowed to coach either in the Super League or indeed regional leagues without a C licence and it is the duty of the TD to ensure that such targets are met.

“There is also need to develop proper women football structures and improve on football medicine because Fifa provides funding for such programmes,” said Osman.

The former FAM chief executive officer also brushed off suggestions that he had retired from the game.

“I never officially retired from the game only that I was concentrating on family business, but should my services be needed, then I will be ready to detach myself from family business,” said Osman.

The 63-year-old battle-hardened tactician’s qualifications include CAF coaching licence obtained in 1985, Fifa international coaching diploma which he got from England in 1994 and a high-level CAF instructors diploma that he successfully obtained in 2005.

Over the years, Osman has also attended international coaching courses in beach soccer, indoor football and women’s football.

He also had stints with the Flames as caretaker coach and coached a number of top local teams such as Mighty Wanderers and Escom United which he guided to a number of silverware.
