Area 23 Kachere Sunday School Choir in Lilongwe hopes of raising enough money were shattered after the launch of their first CD and DVD, Oyamba Ndinu Ambuye, at their church on Sunday, did not go as anticipated.

The youthful choral group invited many reputable artists like The Great Angels, and songbird Hellen Daka Maulidi among other artists, but none of them attended the launch. Maulidi only attended the church service.

Chairman for the youthful group, Honex Kaduka said despite inviting a lot of people and guest artists from all corners of the capital city, other districts and regions, only few turned up.

“It was really a disappointment to see those you invited on trust give you a cold shoulder.

“We only managed to sell the first CD and DVD at K60, 000 (about $200) and we collected K160, 000 (about $530) during the whole launch. We did not sell to individuals. That was a setback,” said Kaduka.

Kaduka said the group invited several people but most of them could not avail themselves for the launch.

He said he hoped to send some of the copies to Blantyre for sale when their counterparts Kachere Church Choir and Chigwirizano would be visiting Ndirande Kachere from September 29 to October 1 this year.
