The Nigerian duo of Peter and Paul Okoye (P Square) will hold a concert in Malawi’s commercial city, Blantyre, as part of side events prior to the nomination gala night of the African Movie Academy Awards slated for the capital on March 16.

The nominations are an event where films that make it into the 25 categories of the awards are announced ahead of the main award ceremony which is expected to be held in April this year.

The award ceremony usually takes place in Nigeria although organisers move the nominations event from country to country as a way of promoting Africans on the awards and to celebrate the continent’s culture and diversity.

Before this year, nominations were held in Burkina Faso, Gambia, Kenya, Ghana and South Africa.

According to AMAA’s director of administration, Tony Anih, the group has deliberately moved the nomination events from one country to the other within the continent in the last six years.

“This year, we decided to come to Malawi because of the level of popularity of African films,” said Anih.
