Th r e e mo r e p e o p l e have been suspended at Kayelekera Uranium Mine manned by Paladin Africa Resources Limited.

This is in addition to the five that police arrested last week in connection with threats they made to damage the mining plant if not given salary increment.

The suspended three are Vitumbiko Chihanga Kaira, Judith Nkhoma and Andrew Khunga. The employees were demanding 170 percentage salary increase, which management said could not manage.

Paladi n gene r a l manage r for international relations Greg Walker was not in a position to give reasons behind the suspension of the three employees. “If they received the (suspension) letters, then they are suspended.

But for the reasons, I need to check,” said Walker yesterday. ” P l e a s e n o t e t h a t these are matters that are being investigated. They do not represent the formal charges that may be lodged against you after the investigation.

Charges, if any, will later be formulated and given to you in writing,” said the letter signed by the employee, interpreter, m a n a g e r , h u m a n resources manager and general manager John Chandler.

One of the suspended employees conf i rmed that the suspension was in connection with the threats, but wondered why such a reason was missing in the suspension letter. Meanwhile, The Nation has obtained the names of those that police arrested for what Walker said ‘trying to sabotage the mine and putting the lives of employees at risk’.

They are Mat thews Mkandawi r e , Golde n C h i l e n g a , At u p e l e Kamb u t o , S a n gwa n i Mt ong a and S y dne y Mlima.
