Almost two months after 22 year-old College of Medicine (CoM) student Obey Chirwa was reported missing, his parents remain optimistic that their son will return home some day.

The fourth year Medicine and Surgery student is said to have left the college campus on March 5 and told his roommate that he was going out, promising to return the same night, but he never did.

In an interview on Tuesday, Obey’s father, Lyson Chirwa said the family is still hopeful that their missing child will be found as their hope lies in God and the police.

“We are just praying hoping that somehow God will reveal to us his whereabouts. We are also waiting for the police to tell us what they have found,” said Chirwa.

Elizabeth Divala, spokesperson for Blantyre police station, said police are still investigating the matter.

“We are not yet done with investigations and we cannot reveal what we have found because that might jeopardise the whole process,” said Divala.

A CCTV camera from a bank in Mangochi confirmed that Obey Chirwa withdrew K10 000 (about $14.7) from the ATM on March 6.
