Pass your ‘moments of truth’

Listen to this article

In customer service, moments of truth are interactions with customers at key times, the handling of which will determine what impression the customer has of the organisation. There are moments of truth in your career too—those occasions when your response to situations will determine whether you’ll move closer to your next level. Here are some of those moments. Impromptu

Moments of obligation: ‘Obligation’ or a sense of duty is becoming scarce as people focus on what they ‘feel like doing’. Moments of obligations to pass are in two forms; times when you are required to step up to the plate to do something as part of your requirements. The second is a sense of duty to do what is necessary out of your own volition.

Moments requiring focus: Being focused is something you should make a lifestyle. But these ‘moments’ are about getting past the noise in your head and the common obstructions and distractions around you. Be disciplined, steadfast and take time to produce work of an exceptional quality.

Moments to step into possibility: Such moments can be plagued by doubt. Should you, should you not step out into the unknown? Be willing and ready to get into unchartered waters rather than staying comfortable and safe. Break complex issues down to see opportunities rather than be buried in complexity.

Moments to demonstrate commitment: Don’t let what you do depend on how you feel, but be based on what you have signed up for. Moments to confirm your integrity: Moments of brilliance: Basic routine performed consistently well is fundamental to success. However, it is important to demonstrate you are capable of performing at your peak and ‘arising and shining’.

Now take action: What obligations are you not living up to?
