PCL has new chairperson

Press Corporation Limited (PCL), the Malawi Stock Exchange (MSE) listed conglomerate has announced the appointment of Clement Chilingulo as its chairperson.

Chilingulo replaces Dean Lungu who served in that position for 11 years.

According to a statement from Press Corporation, signed by the company’s secretary, Benard Ndau, Chilingulo’s appointment is effective from January 1 2013.

“Press Corporation Limited is pleased to announce that the company’s board of directors recently elected Clement Chilingulo as its [chairperson] effective from January 1 2013. Chilingulo succeeds Lungu who resigned from the board after serving as a director since February 1996 and as [chairperson] from 2001,” reads the statement in part.

Lungu was at the company’s helm during the period Press Corporation listed on the Malawi as well as the London stock exchanges.

Chilingulo has been on the company’s board since February 2001. Until his election to the new position, he has chaired the board’s appointments and remuneration committee.

Chilungulo holds a bachelor of laws from the University of Malawi and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries of the United Kingdom.

According to the statement, Chilingulo’s association with Press Corporation has always been close. He worked at the corporate head office from 1976 to 1983 during which period he rose to the position of deputy group company secretary.

Press Group subsidiaries include National Bank of Malawi, Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL), Carlsberg Malawi Limited, Maldeco Fisheries, Puma Energy Malawi, TNM Limited and Limbe Leaf Tobacco, among others.
