PEAs get motor bikes

Lilongwe District Council has donated 12 motorcycles worth K18 million to 12 primary education advisers (PEAs) to ease mobility challenges in their areas.

Speaking during the event on Tuesday, Lilongwe Rural East chief education officer Thomas Mbwembwe said the sector used savings from the Other Recurrent Transactions to buy the motorcycles.

He said: “The PEAs face mobility challenges in their zones as they inspect schools monthly.

“With the motorbikes, they will be able to supervise school work in hard-to-reach areas in the district.”

In his remarks, Lilongwe District Council chairperson  Luciano Botomani commended the Rural East Education Sector for the initiative.

He said: “We do not take the initiative for granted. The sector had transportation problems because the bikes the PEAs are using are in bad condition as they were bought in 2005.

“So, we expect good results from your zones and take care of the bikes.”

Nkhoma Zone PEA Akim Katondo aid the bike will motivate him to work hard in his zone.

“Nkhoma Zone has 14 primary schools with some in hard-to-reach areas. With the bike, I will be able to visit all schools,” he said.

Lilongwe Rural East Education Sector has 19 PEAs and 12 of them have received the motorcycles.
