People’s Party attacks Mera
The ruling People’s Party (PP) has attacked Malawi Government agent, Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera) on allegations that there are opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) mercenaries at the institution.
However, DPP’s Nicholas Dausi trashed the assertions.
“This is not true and the PP should be serious with statements it makes,” he said.
The statement, signed by the party’s deputy publicity secretary, Ken Msonda, said according to the Mera DPP mercenaries, the board had not met yet to approve fuel prices reduction.
The ruling PP said it expected Malawians, led by Consumers Association of Malawi (Cama) executive director John Kapito, to hold demonstrations to condemn Mera’s action and force filling stations owners to reduce fuel prices and transport providers reduce fares immediately.
Msonda said: “Surprisingly each time fuel prices go up; Mera announces new prices immediately and pump price changes there and then.”
The PP said Kapito was nowhere to be seen, suggesting he could have been consulting his ‘pay masters on way forward’, DPP.
Reads the statement: “We hope and pray that he [will not] go out to mislead the citizenry again that the fuel price reduction, kwacha appreciation and better tobacco prices is temporary, deliberately forgetting that even the kwacha devaluation and fuel price increase were also temporary.”
Kapito in an interview yesterday wondered when Msonda became a government spokesperson.
