FAM has said persistent rains in Nigeria could affect the flair of tomorrow’s decisive 2014 World Cup qualifier between the Super Eagles and the Flames slated for UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda yesterday said it seems very likely that the game will be played in wet conditions.

“It is rainy season here and it has been raining for the past 24 hours.

“This morning, there was fog and it is showering at the moment. We are hoping that the rains might die down later in the day; otherwise, it is a cause for worry,” said Nyirenda from Nigeria.

He said the situation has the potential to affect the condition of the pitch which has natural grass.

Meanwhile, the Flames advance delegation met Fifa security officer for the match, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Calabar State security officials to get an update on security arrangements.

“The authorities have reassured us that everything is in place and the safety of our team is guaranteed,” said Nyirenda.

The development comes in the wake of concerns that were raised by FAM over Boko Haram terrorist attacks that have led to several people being killed.
